Design Focus: Cultural Concept Design Year: 2013 Project Location: Berlin Details:This museum design is strategically located at the intersection of the Bodemuseum, a major river, and transportation railways in Berlin’s vibrant city center. We aim for the museum to serve not only as an attraction for tourists but also as a communal space for local residents to gather and engage. The design features a linear spatial arrangement that integrates an outdoor area, providing a blend of solid and void for relaxation.
The central concept, “The Stream of Time,” employs a linear exhibition layout to showcase artifacts from ancient to modern times, guided by flowing lighting that immerses visitors in the continuum of German history.
Location Analysis
The Stream of Time
The exhibition hall is characterized by a black color theme and streamlined lighting, evoking a sense of historical mystery. The structure itself resembles a twisting zigzag, with a glass atrium at its center. The basement houses special exhibition spaces, a badge and coin exhibit, and storage, while the upper floors are dedicated to permanent exhibitions, leisure activities, and office facilities, all within a linear circulation design. The triangular area by the river serves as the main entrance, featuring a café, while the staff entrance leads to an undeveloped park, and the loading area is adjacent to the office space.
